Stress, anxiety and depression are a set of complex emotional challenges that affect people of different walks. These may be brought about by a variety of emotional, nutritional, environmental as well as physiological problems. These factors cause an imbalance in neurotransmission thereby bringing about these conditions.
Are these conditions the same?
While the three are not the same, they often occur together. It is common for someone experiencing depression to have anxiety and get stressed. Therefore, treatments provided for these health conditions are usually similar to a large extent. 
Stress and Depression
Stress and depression are usually characterised by low energy and mood, increased or decreased appetite, sleeping disorders, hopelessness and fatigue. Stress lasts for a shorter time, and if not managed effectively, it turns into depression.  Under chronic conditions, one may have gastrointestinal difficulties and extreme problems with concentrating. Suicidal feelings may set in if no intervention is made and this happens when the problem is extremely severe.  
 Anxiety
Moderate anxiety is normally a reaction to stress, where one is prompted to deal with difficult situations. When anxiety becomes excessive, it is classified as a disorder. This condition may create uneasiness fear or worry in a person, which may be accompanied by headache, twitching, irritability, trembling and sweating. Such people become withdrawn and prefer being alone. 
How do you control the three conditions?

Modern ways of living can greatly impact the brain's operation, and this is believed to be the cause of increasing cases of mental problems. With proper guidance, making adjustments on sleeping and eating habits, relationships and beliefs about oneself have proved to work positively for many patients. 
Keep yourself busy
Any mental related problem can be solved by some physical activities. This form of treatment is effective in the initial stages of stress, anxiety and depression because you can get into the right state of mind and solve your problem effectively.  Exercises are a good example of getting physically active.  They may not solve the root cause of stress and anxiety, but they enable you to calm and solve the problems effectively.
Be in control
Every problem has a solution, but it's impossible if you are not thinking straight. You must be in control and be confident that you can solve your mental problem.  Feeling that you have no control over your problem will only worsen your stress, depression and anxiety and lead to complications.
Talk to people
Share your problems with people who you trust fully. It will help ease the burden, and other people will offer you support and you will end up seeing your problems differently. Allowing stress and anxiety weigh you down can lead to a mental breakdown and overall poor health.
Forget about habits that offer temporary relief
Some people go things like alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes to help them cope with stress, anxiety and depression.  The use of such substances is known as avoidance behavior, and they end up creating more complicated problems.
Be positive
 Be positive in life and be grateful about the good things you have. You can write three things that make you happy every day and just appreciate what you have. Bitterness will only increase stress and depression.
Accept all situations that cannot be changed
Some situations are very difficult, but if you cannot change them, learn how to live with them. If you lost a job, move on and get another. Whatever the problem, if you cannot change the situation, accept it.
